I am easily inspired by my surroundings, experiences and even to the music I am listening. But when I am struggling to find inspiration, I would go back to the basics by reading through my collection of Frankie magazine catalogues. Frankie is not like any typical magazine where it showcases celebrity hot topics and drama. Frankie magazine is an Australian magazine about arts and crafts and design showcasing arts, stories and moments etc.
The first time I saw this, I never seen any front cover that stood out like Frankie as if it was calling my name almost alluring. I could honestly saved my $20s for other luxury but I couldn't resist. _ This $12.50 magazine was worth my investment which came with a poster and a collectable art card (which I still have with me to this day). That very first magazine is the top left and my recent magazine is the bottom right.
My favourite design is from my collection is issue 86 (the bottom left with the lavender cover) not only is purple my second favourite colour but the pop of yellow brings is what draws my eyes; making the cover standout from the rest. My least favourite design is issue 82 (the top right with just blue, black and white) because I personally think the design is underwhelming from the limited colour and blank space overall.
These are worth the investment no only because of the content but because I can get inspiration from looking at fellow artist and designers work. These magazines is an art gallery in a book. Along with the bonus poster that comes with every issue is also a sweet surprise. A sweet investment that helps me find inspiration without the benefit to going to an art gallery. It is genuinely nice to go over these magazines every once in a while and brings back that certain nostalgia when I was a young aspiring artist and/or designer.
