Just Us Fitness

Problem

We currently live in a society, where social media and technology dominate humanity which impacts people's health and wellbeing. This is especially concerning in the younger demographic as an average teen spends around 9 hours a day online (Anderson, 2018) which is roughly one-third of their entire day. With entertainment on their phones, teens become less active and spending more time on digital technology. This is a concern to developing children and teens that aren't getting the recommended amount of exercise and only about 1 in 4 teenagers are getting the recommended hour a day of fitness (American Heart Association, 2020). This came to a generalization that teenagers don't enjoy fitness. It is our goal to find ways to evoke motivation and make fitness enjoyable.

Solution

We, as a group, put together and designed a final product that can motivate activity and have a long-term enjoyment in fitness. We designed a pair of glasses and wristband that you wear throughout the day that tracks your physical activity,  monitors your steps taken and also provide motivation on your daily progress. The glasses are polaroid so that only you can see the colours and messages on the wristband. Making this experience more personal and private. Without the glasses, there is no display from both the individual and other people.

We also decided to incorporate vibrations to enhance the physical representation of data and add to privacy and personalisation. The more activity in the wearer the more the colours and positive messages is displayed on the wristband which changes accordingly to the level of progress you have made that day giving you instant insight. Our product is intended to make exercise more enjoyable which therefore will motivate the adolescents to stay fit and healthy.
