In DESIGN100, we were given a task to design our client's ideal wallet.

Before actually started designing a wallet, I had to interview my client about their preferences of their dream wallet with specific questions to get as much information. I asked questions about their past wallet, whether it's a fashion statement or utility function, pros and cons about their current wallet, visual preferences and etc. I noticed that my client likes: to have functionality but also be equally as aesthetically pleasing, not be too bulky, have an elegant design that matches the client's level of maturity, easily be accessible to cards (because they had critiques that their zipper blocked the them from getting the cards) and have card components (where they can easily pull the cars out). Overall my client, emphasised that the wallet had to be aesthetically pleasing.

Once I got enough information, I started creating numerous rough sketches from wallet designs showing small tweaks to my client's current wallet to very extravagantly different wallet. I mainly focused on the visual aspects of the design because that's what my client specified. I made my client give critical feedback on my designs and then made her choose her favourite design which I further developed on the concept.

Once tweaking my concept, I had to make an actual model that replicates the design the final design. Although, we were given a variety of materials to create out wallet but I decided to stick with coloured paper because I remembered that they wanted their wallet to be thin. The benefit of using colored paper is that I can draw on top to give some designs which in my case I added hemline to add an illusion that the wallet was stitched. The strips of blue and yellow added a pop of colour. I connected all the edges with clear tape as it had better yield than glue.

Overall the wallet, was rated with satisfactory from both my client and myself as a designer. I could have made the wallet smaller because it is hard to hold with one hand but otherwise, wasn't too big of a problem. I learnt the time, energy and process invested to create a simple design like a wallet. It was an eye opening experience.
