WEEK 1

Before starting The Future of X project, I needed to have a starting point which my interest. We discovered our domain by writing a diary entry about what our future would look like in the next decade. I treated my diary as a planner, so I could add more detail and have an organized sequence. My current routine almost similar, but the difference was that I am currently a student, and in 2027 I would be a design teacher. When looking at my planner, I noticed that music is still in my future routine (and will be). So automatically, my domain was music.
WEEK 2

It was time to start researching on my domain. Still, before that, I needed to narrow down my field as music has numerous categories such as genres, technology/applications, making of the songs and so on. Luckily, I managed to narrow it down to music technology because I quickly found content and timeline compared to other sectors. Then did research on the different timelines and which I saw a trend in how minimal and convenient the technology is becoming from gramophones to now streaming services.
WEEK 3
The next step was to interview experts within my domain. When looking for them, I stuck to locals experts within the music fields through google searched and recommendations from peers and tutors. I managed to find local experts in the area to which I contacted by email or through mobile. Luckily I managed to get 9 out of 10 people: two musicians, four music therapist, a lecturer in music technology, a former music journalist and a listener. I planned out the time and day that they are available.

WEEK 4

It was the time where I had to interview them. Before the interview, I asked all of the interviewees the permission to record the session. To which everyone accepted except for one music therapist, (but it was not a concern because I didn’t refer to her when writing my final insight).

Into this process, I realised that my topic started to expand from music technology to music psychology and genre, so my case is too big and ambiguous. Therefore I decided to directly focus on music technology which cut down to three interviewees and their information. Although I filtered out unnecessary content, I kept them aside.
WEEK 5
At this point, I didn't have insight, so I decided to use the experts' points and developed it into potential insights. My first original insight was that:

"There is going to be a time where there is an overload of music. So streaming services will come to a peak where everything crashes. Therefore no streaming services and then a disruptive uproar within society."
It was an ambitious insight, but I didn't realize how unrealistic and confusing my understanding and also the precedents were all over the place. So I decided to redo the insight and go back from the research and interviews and connected the similarities. After that, I changed my insight into:

"a possibility that streaming services overtake by non-profit streaming services designed to benefit artists and listeners."
This one made more sense and was self-explanatory. Therefore I finalised my crystallised insight and started writing my article.
WEEK 6
Then it was time to create a video documentary and my article.
ARTICLE: When writing my article, I structured it into separate sections: introduction, the user experience, problem, expert's point of view and the potential future. I mentioned my precedents/facts and expert's quotes from the paragraph talking about user experience to the problem.

VIDEO: I used three people (two musicians and one listener). I started with my friend and transition to the experts to show a comparison between the different perspectives in music streaming services. I broke my comprehensive insight into smaller segments and spread them out in my video.
